Have you ever experience ice cream headaches before? Sure you have.. the other name is BRAIN FREEZE. Usually happen when something very cold like ice cream or slurshies (like 7eleven's slurpee) are consumed quickly.
Believe it or not, some people are immune to ice cream headaches or brain freeze. how lucky are they?very lucky. Unfortunately I'm not one of them. I will definitely get it everytime. Why and how to stop it?
So i browsed through to find out how to cure or at least reduce the effect and found several ways that might help.
The scientific name is sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgis – what a
mouthful. When these items contact the nerves in the roof of your mouth,
the nerves overreact and tell certain blood vessels in your head to
become larger causing an increase in blood pressure in the head. (credit to Ice Cream Jurnal)
Although its harmless and usually goes away after 30 seconds. but its too long rite? so here are few tips that might help you.
- Press your tongue against the roof of your mouth
- Drink warm liquids
- Hold your breath
- Breath in through your mouth and out through your nose
- Hold whatever gave you the headache against your forehead (this one doesn’t sound effective, but it would be funny to watch)
Try it yourself and tell us your experience. Which one works for you? or if you have any tips that u want to share, you are welcomed to leave a comment.
